Craniosacral Work

Craniosacral work is a form of massage and bodywork designed to balance the position of bones in the head, spinal column and sacrum. Though these bones can only make minor shifts in the body, even the tiniest movements can have profound psychological and physiological effects on the rest of the body – particularly the central nervous system that the craniosacral system protects. By undergoing craniosacral work, patients can relieve pressure in the cranio-sacral system and in turn provide a healthier environment for the central nervous system.

Did you know…

that many common conditions and disorders have been linked to the health of the central nervous system, including mental health disorders, headaches, chronic pain, and more? When the craniosacral bones, fluids, and membranes are out of place, the central nervous system usually is too. By using the gentle pressure of craniosacral work, the body is empowered to self-heal from many chronic disorders and symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for craniosacral work?

Craniosacral work can be beneficial to people with many different health backgrounds, including those who are healthy but looking to improve their overall wellness. However, many people undergo craniosacral work to alleviate the symptoms of specific conditions, such as migraines, fibromyalgia, central nervous system injuries, ADD/ADHD, anxiety disorders and TMJ Syndrome.

There are some instances in which craniosacral work is not recommended for health and safety purposes. Examples include head traumas or fractures and a history of stroke or an aneurysm. Because craniosacral work can involve changes to fluid pressure in the head, only your doctor can determine if craniosacral work is right for you.

What should I expect when undergoing craniosacral therapy?

Cranio-sacral sessions are performed with patients reclined on a treatment table. Gentle pressure is applied to the soft tissues surrounding the cranio-sacral system, relieving pressure and tension. The sessions are very relaxing for most patients and completely painless. Following a cranio-sacral session, you may feel a greater sense of well-being, improved energy, and increased mental clarity. You may also find that you sleep better at night and better handle stressful situations.

How many craniosacral sessions will I need to achieve results?

Individual results vary from person to person and according to the condition being treated. Some experience noticeable results in just one or two sessions. Others may require several sessions to start experiencing improvements.
